Hi, I’m Seth Price, the founder of TurlyTag. I started TurlyTag because I wanted to create an easy way to help get back the valuables that we all lose from time to time. Like most people, I have lots of things that I would rather not have to replace… phones, laptop, e-reader, keys, wallet, backpack, ipod, waterbottle, luggage etc. The inspiration came during my travels providing Identity Theft Expertise to some of the largest Insurance carriers in the US. I travel anywhere from 1 to 5 days a week and during the course of that travel, it’s really easy to misplace something. I have lost a cell phone in rental car, a camera in a taxi, a laptop at airport security when I was rushing to catch a flight. Most of the time I could get my stuff back but it was such a stressful and time consuming experience, I knew there had to be a better way.

As I researched the issue, I found that I wasn’t alone, over 50,000 laptops are lost each month at US airports and more shockingly, 65% of those laptops are never claimed. It’s just too difficult. And the kicker is, the airports sell all unclaimed items after 4 months for pennies on the dollar. And that’s just laptops. I decided then, that I wanted to create an ID system so simple, that anyone could use it. And it was also important to me that my identity would be protected.

I didn’t want to put my phone number or email on public display. It needed to have an easy way to be contacted and a service that would facilitate all communication between me and the finder. Handle shipping or allow me to pick up my item if I was close by. It would also have to be affordable, so I could tag everything I wanted to protect. And lastly, the whole system would have to supported by an unflinching commitment to customer service. Before working in technology and focusing on privacy, I spent 15 years in the hospitality business. Focusing on the details that are the core of customer service. One of my favorite projects is located in New York, called Bubby's. It's been open for over 20 years and is still run by my former partner, Ron Silver.
